What is Outplacement?
Outplacement, or Career Transition Services, help downsized employees to find new employment. Outplacement/career transition services are typically paid for by the employer to provide their downsized employees with a soft landing for their job transition.
These services typically include:
- Personal coaching and counseling
- Development of job search marketing plan
- Career assessment and evaluation.
- Workshops on topics such as resume-writing, networking, interviewing, negotiating
- Electronic resume distribution
Why Should my Company Offer Outplacement?
The best companies always consider the long-term, strategic impact of an action. There are several important advantages to offering outplacement or career transition services to your employees. It's obvious that providing outplacement services allows you to put a positive spin on a negative situation. Departing employees are potential customers have a voice in your community - and a voice with your current staff members - and it's important to remember that their impact on your organization doesn't end when they walk out of the door. Here are some other reasons to offer outplacement services to your laid-off workforce:
- Eliminate likelihood of litigation.
- Lower unemployment costs - employees find new jobs quicker when given assistance.
- Reduce management stress.
- Mitigate negative feelings of laid-off workers.
- Increase morale among retained employees.
- Achieve the best possible good will and positive PR despite a discouraging announcement.
- Heighten public opinion as a better corporate citizen.
How Much Does it Cost?
Many businesses engage traditional, but rather expensive outplacement firms to provide career transition services for their effected employees often costing $3,000 - $5,000 (or much more) per downsized employee. However, The Advisory Board has negotiated this following, heavily-discounted pricing, allowing you to save 60-80%: Under 10 employees: $1,200 each 10 or more employees: $1,000 each
(Note that the volume discount only applies to a single order.)
